Ahmad Said orders probe over leak
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Mentri Besar had ordered an investigation into how a confidential audit report on a state-owned computer firm was leaked to the Opposition.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Said was especially incensed because the Aug 26 report was leaked to the opposition even before the document was submitted to the state government.
“We believe this is an attempt to sabotage the state government, and meant to tarnish our reputation,” Ahmad said after chairing the weekly exco meeting here yesterday.
The state computer firm, Top IT produces the e-Book or digital notebooks that have been distributed free to thousands of primary school pupils here since 2009.
This was a move to lighten the heavy schoolbags of students, and to expose the young ones to the Internet.
Ahmad was responding to a recent online allegation that Top IT’s factory in Gong Badak was unsafe for use and incurred massive cost overruns while it was was being built.
The allegation was made by Batu Burok assemblyman Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi.
Ahmad said it was inaccurate to say the construction cost of the factory for Top IT ballooned to RM12mil as the actual amount was only RM7.9mil.
On claims that the building was unsafe, Ahmad said cracks only appeared in certain parts of the building and this was rectified a long time ago.
The Mentri Besar said he was baffled how outside parties, with no expertise about safety of buildings, could conclude the factory was unsafe.
As for Dr Syed Azman’s claim that the factory begun operations without a Certificate of Fitness for Occupation (CFO), Ahmad said Dr Syed Azman was behind time.
“Top IT received certification on Sept 15, 2009 from a professional consultant that the building was safe.
“The company is awaiting the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) that replaces the CFO previously issued by the local authority,” he added.
